Bruce Arena reveals USMNT's coaching staff

Bruce Arena's reinforcements have arrived.

U.S Soccer announced Wednesday the technical staff that will assist the team in its quest to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Familiarity and continuity were essential in the decision, as four of the five names are former members of the LA Galaxy coaching staff who worked with Arena during his time at StubHub Center.

Here's a list of the chosen few:

Dave Sarachan

  • One of three assistant coaches.
  • Four-time MLS cup-winning coach.
  • Returns after serving under Arena between 2000-02.
  • Served as the Director of Scouting for U.S Soccer's Development Academy program prior to 2008.
  • Seven year playing career: Rochester Lancers (1976-77), Pittsburgh Spirit (1978-79), Buffalo Stallions (1980-81), Baltimore Blast (1981), and Kansas City Comets (1982).

Pat Noonan

  • Assistant coach.
  • Served at the LA Galaxy for the past four seasons.
  • 2004 MLS All-Star selection.
  • Appeared 14 times for the USMNT, helping the team reach the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship.
  • 10 year playing career for five MLS clubs as well as Norwegian side Aalesunds.
  • Helped the Revolution reach three straight MLS Cup finals from 2005-07.

Kenny Arena

  • Assistant coach.
  • Served at the LA Galaxy for the past two seasons.
  • Served as head coach with Florida International University from 2012-13.
  • Began his career at the University of Virginia in 2006.
  • Assistant coach with UCLA from 2008-11.
  • Played college soccer at Virginia and was selected by the MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls) in the fourth round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft.
  • Played in the MLS for three seasons (Metrostars; 2 years, D.C United; 1 year).

Matt Reis

  • Goalkeeping coach.
  • Played for 16 years in MLS (LA Galaxy; 5 years, New England Revolution; 11 seasons).
  • 2002 MLS Cup winner.
  • 293 MLS regular-season appearances, fifth all-time among goalkeepers.
  • Spent the last two seasons coaching with the LA Galaxy.
  • Named the 2013 MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year for helping save the life of his father-in-law who was badly injured during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Thomas Rongen

  • Chief scout.
  • Product of the infamous Ajax academy.
  • 45 years experience as a coach, player, and academy director.
  • Played for numerous clubs in the North American Soccer League following his time at Ajax.
  • One of the 10 original coaches in MLS, when he led the Tampa Bay Mutiny to the Supporters Shield during the first season in 1996.
  • Succeeded Bruce Arena as head coach at D.C United, leading the club to the MLS Cup title in 1999.
  • Served as Toronto FC Academy director from 2012-14 and as head coach of the Tampa Bay Rowdies from 2014-15.
