Padres' Hairston Jr. going to the DL
San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres placed infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. on the disabled list Saturday with a right elbow sprain.
To replace Hairston on the roster, the Padres recalled infielder Everth Cabrera from Triple-A Portland.
Hairston has been playing with pain in his right elbow for weeks, according to a story on the team's website, but it has gotten worse recently. He will need to rest the elbow for two to three weeks for a full recovery.
In 115 games this season, Hairston has hit .249 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI.
Cabrera has played in 63 games for the Padres this season, batting .205 with a homer and 22 RBI.
In a separate transaction, the Padres recalled pitcher Luis Perdomo from Portland and optioned outfielder Luis Durango to the same club.
