Tomas Kaberle may still want out of Toronto
Tomas Kaberle may want out of Toronto after all, and it could be because of Ron Wilson.
Kaberle's father, Frantisek Sr., gave an interview to Czech hockey magazine Hokej this week, and according to Maple Leafs blog site Pension Plan Puppets, Wilson is at the core of his son's issues with the club.
“I cannot imagine how he will get along with coach Wilson, who relies primarily on aggression and stress. That’s not Thomas, he’s a technical type of defender.”
Kaberle, 32, is entering the final year of his contract with the Leafs, paying him $4.25 million. Despite having a no-trade clause, Kaberle's father doesn't see that as an issue going forward, even going as far as suggesting that Kaberle will not re-sign with the team at the end of the season.
“I think that during the course of the year he will be traded to another club,” Kaberle Sr., said. “There is only one chance for Toronto to get something back in return for Tomas now. In my opinion, I can’t see Tomas entering a new contract with the Toronto. Not if Ron Wilson continues to be employed there.”
In addition to his issues with Wilson, Kaberle Sr. also pointed to the city of Toronto's intense media market and fan pressure that could see Kaberle leave the club.
"Thanks to Tomas, I have been following Toronto for a long time. I didn't believe it much in the beginning, but it seems that the best players don't want to go to this club. The reason is because of the huge pressure from the fans, and especially the media. Not every hockey player is able to deal with it."
