- FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Lauren Silberman, an ex-club soccer player at Wisconsin, competes with more than 30 male kickers at the Jets' facility. She's hoping to earn an invitation to an NFL training camp.

- WASHINGTON - Dennis Rodman says North Korean leader Kim Jong Un doesn't want war with the United States. The former NBA star says Kim just wants President Barack Obama to call him.

- JOHANNESBURG - Oscar Pistorius is settling a 3-year-old case against a former neighbor over reputation damages in a dispute now overshadowed by murder charges against the Olympic star.

- NEW YORK - The Miami Heat put their 13-game winning streak on the line against one of the few teams able to handle them this season. The Knicks have won both meetings by 20 points. Game starts 1 p.m.

- DETROIT - The Blackhawks try to extend their NHL-record, season-opening point streak to 22 games when they play the Detroit Red Wings. Game starts 12:30 p.m.

- AVONDALE, Ariz. - Mark Martin attempts to become the oldest winner in NASCAR Sprint Cup history when he starts from the pole at Phoenix International Raceway. Race starts 3 p.m.

- ANN ARBOR, Mich. - No. 4. Michigan plays No. 9 Michigan State in a Big Ten showdown, with the Wolverines looking to avenge last month's 23-point loss to the Spartans. Game starts 4 p.m.

- DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 5 Duke women No. 15 North Carolina. The Blue Devils can set an ACC record with their 17th league victory, a product of an expanded conference schedule. Game starts 4 p.m.

- CARSON, Calif. - The defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy open their season against the Chicago Fire without David Beckham and Landon Donovan. Game starts 5 p.m.

- SINGAPORE - American Stacy Lewis wins the HSBC Women's Champions for her sixth career LPGA title. Lewis, the 2012 LPGA Player of the Year, finishes a stroke ahead of South Korea's Na Yeon Choi.

- WILLOW, Alaska - The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race officially starts in Willow, about 50 miles north of Anchorage. The 66 teams began the 1,000-mile race with a jaunt through Anchorage a day earlier.

- GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany - Austria's Anna Fenninger wins a super-G World Cup race overshadowed by a death threat against overall champion Tina Maze.

- KVITFJELL, Norway - Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal clinches the World Cup super-G title after winning for first time in home country.
