Dortmund eyes second against Leverkusen
Leverkusen, Germany (Sports Network) - Borussia Dortmund will attempt to overtake Bayer Leverkusen for second place on Sunday when the two sides get together at the BayArena.
After an up-and-down first half of the season, the defending champions have started the second half of the campaign on fire, outscoring their first two opponents, 8-0.
Dortmund sits one point back of Leverkusen and 12 adrift of leaders Bayern Munich, while the home side will be attempting to rebound from a 0-0 draw against Freiburg last time out.
Leverkusen will rely on its strong record at home, which includes a current run of seven successive wins in all competitions at the BayArena.
Bayern will travel to Mainz on Saturday to face a team that it has struggled to beat on the road in recent years.
Mainz has won two of the last three meetings between the two sides on home soil, and with the club sitting in fifth place, three points out of a place in the Champions League, another win on Saturday would be massive.
Eintracht occupies fourth place and visits mid-table Hamburg, while Schalke continues its chase for a European place with a home contest against last- place Greuther Furth.
In other matches on Saturday, Dusseldorf hosts Stuttgart, Freiburg travels to relegation-battling Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg entertains 16th-place Augsburg.
The other contest on Sunday sees Monchengladbach try to improve its hopes for a European place with a win at bottom-half Nurnberg.
Werder Bremen began the weekend with a 2-0 victory at home against Hannover as Nils Petersen scored goals in the 85th and 88th minutes to help Bremen snap a four-game winless streak.
