Jets forward Mark Scheifele opened the scoring for the Winnipeg Jets in their game on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils. Normally that wouldn't warrant further comment, except that this was Scheifele's first goal since the season opener way back on October 1st, 2013. That was 24 games ago.
"That’s not the focus," Scheifele said of his long goalless drought this week. "It’s not about goals and assists. It’s about doing the simple things and doing the things to help the team win.”
“There’s not much to really explain,” continued Scheifele, addressing his extended slump. “It’s a process. If the NHL was easy and everyone could score, everyone would be in the NHL. But it’s not that easy.”
Despite his comments, we'd imagine Scheifele is feeling pretty relieved in Newark this evening.
