Arsenal's Calum Chambers not in starting lineup vs. Borussia Dortmund

Tonsillitis could not come at a more inopportune time for Calum Chambers.

The Arsenal defender, who was expected to be leaned upon heavily in the extended absence of Mathieu Debuchy - out with an ankle injury - is not in the starting lineup for today's Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

As was rumored earlier in the day, 19-year-old Spaniard Hector Bellerin will make his Champions League debut in place of Chambers.

Quite a stage for the teenager.

Arsenal's Calum Chambers in danger of missing Dortmund match with tonsillitis

The situation at fullback continues to worsen for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

After watching Mathieu Debuchy suffer an ankle injury Saturday that is expected to keep him out of the lineup for upwards of two months, the manager revealed yesterday that Nacho Monreal, dealing with a back problem, will not travel with the team to Germany for this evening's Champions League contest against Borussia Dortmund.

While the situation was not ideal, there would still be enough cover at the position, at least for one match. That may no longer be the case.

Wenger confirmed that versatile defender Calum Chambers is dealing with a bout of tonsillitis and is "50/50" to play in the match at Signal Iduna Park.

If he is unable to pass a late fitness test today, Wenger could be forced to thrust 19-year-old Héctor Bellerín into action.
