Leafs send Gardiner down to AHL
The Maple Leafs have sent Jake Gardiner down to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies after the young defenceman played just two games for the Leafs this season, according to Darren Dreger on twitter.
Gardiner, who missed the first two games of the NHL season while recovering from a concussion sustained during his time with the Marlies, played a total of 39 minutes over a back-to-back against the Penguins and Islanders this week, which the Leafs split.
The 22-year-old failed to record a point and was a -1 in the two games. Gardiner scored seven goals and added 23 assists in 75 games with the Maple Leafs last season.
