Arsenal hammers West Ham
London, England (Sports Network) - Arsenal scored four times in the span of 10 minutes in the second half as the Gunners rolled to a 5-1 win over West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
The Hammers started well and took a 1-0 lead after 18 minutes when Jack Collison sent a thumping volley past goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny from the edge of the penalty area.
But the home side quickly equalized with a similarly stunning left-footed effort from Lukas Podolski, whose shot sailed past a helpless Jussi Jaaskelainen in the West Ham net.
The match was nicely poised at the start of the second half, but Arsenal embarked on a run of four goals in 10 minutes that allowed the club to coast home for the comfortable win.
Olivier Giroud tallied the first of his two goals in the 47th minute when he turned home Theo Walcott's corner kick at the near post, while Santi Cazorla made it 3-1 with a clever backheel from Podolski's low cross.
The German played provider once more in the 54th when he picked out Walcott at the back post and played a well-weighted ball into his path, which set up a simple first-time finish.
Giroud then completed the onslaught in the 57th when he scored on a neat redirection, which once again was created by Podolski.
The result lifts Arsenal to within four points of fourth-place Tottenham.
