Canadiens place Gomez on waivers
The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Scott Gomez on waivers, according to Pierre LeBrun. If he clears, Montreal can officially buy him out as of noon Thursday.
Shortly after the Montreal Canadiens opened camp Sunday, general manager Marc Bergevin announced that the veteran centre would not play for the club this season. Bergevin added Gomez will have his contract bought out this summer. But the plan changed after the NHL and NHLPA agreed to a deal, allowing accelerated compliance buyouts this season.
Gomez has the highest cap hit on the Canadiens at $7.36 million and is coming off the worst season of his career, with just two goals and 11 points in 38 games.
LeBrun also noted that the Rangers have placed Wade Redden on waivers.
