Leverkusen confirms Renato's return to Brazil
Leverkusen, Germany (Sports Network) - Bayer Leverkusen confirmed Thursday that midfielder Renato Augusto will be leaving the German side this winter to return to Brazil.
Leverkusen has reached an agreement with FIFA Club World Cup winners Corinthians for the 24-year-old, who arrived in Germany in 2008. He went on to make 101 appearances for the Bundesliga club, the most recent of which came in Leverkusen's 3-0 defeat of Hamburg last weekend.
"Renato has given us plenty of wonderful footballing moments during his time in Leverkusen," Rudi Voller, the club's director of sport, said. "Even if it was tough for him in recent months due to different injuries, we will always have good memories of him and he has made a big contribution to the positive development of our club."
Leverkusen's general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser revealed that homesickness also played a part in Renato's desire to complete the move to Corinthians.
