Tigers' Verlander to undergo MRI on shoulder: 'I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous'

Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander will undergo further examination on Tuesday after exiting Monday's start against the Pittsburgh Pirates with right shoulder soreness.

Verlander was replaced by reliever Justin Miller in the second inning after being tagged for five runs (four earned) in an 11-6 loss.

The 31-year-old has never landed on the disabled list in 10 major league seasons and admitted that he's worried about the possible outcome of Tuesday's MRI.

The Tigers now trail the Kansas City Royals by 1/2 game in the AL Central.
