Report: Michael Finley attempting NBA comeback
Former All Star Michael Finley is reportedly attempting an NBA comeback, according to an ESPN report.
Citing "sources with knowledge of his plans," the report states that Finley has been working out vigorously and is attempting the comeback after playing in NBA pickup games during the past summer. He was most recently a member of the Mavericks front office, but is putting his aspirations of a career as an NBA executive on hold while he attempts his comeback as a player.
Finley also reportedly had an invite to Dallas' training camp, but suffered a calf injury.
The 39-year-old hasn't played in the NBA since the 2009-2010 season, which he finished as a member of the Celtics, but he was most prominent during his tenure as a Maverick, where he was twice named an All Star, and in San Antonio, where he won his only championship in 2007.
According to the report, Finley is looking to pitch himself as a player who can be a shooter off of the bench and a veteran who can mentor younger players. He finished his career as a 37.5% three-point shooter.
Finley posted career averages of 15.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists over 15 NBA seasons with the Suns, Mavericks, Spurs and Celtics after being selected 21st overall by Phoenix in the 1995 draft.
