Rubin claims top spot in Group H
Kazan, Russia (Sports Network) - Rubin locked up the top spot in Group H of the Europa League on Thursday as Salomon Rondon scored twice to help the Russian side to a 3-0 win over Inter Milan at Tsentralnyi Stadium.
The two teams entered the contest level on 10 points having already secured advancement to the next round, but Rubin took advantage of a slightly inexperienced Italian side to finish on top of the group.
Gokdeniz Karadeniz scored in the opening minute for Rubin after Inter's Juan Jesus struck his own post with a clearance attempt, allowing Gokdeniz Karadeniz to easily score from close range.
The young Inter squad pressed Rubin, but goalkeeper Sergei Ryzhikov came up big to keep his team in front, and Rondon secured the win with two goals over the final three minutes.
Rondon buried his first goal by finding the roof of the net from 12 yards before he capped the win after being played in on goal by Gokdeniz Karadeniz.
The other contest in the group saw Aleksandar Mitrovic score the equalizer in the 67th minute for Partizan Belgrade at Neftchi.
Anzhi holds a three-point lead at the top of Group A after a 2-0 win over Udinese that saw Christopher Samba and Samuel Eto'o score goals in the second half, while Liverpool was denied a big win at Anfield as Elsad Zverotic scored in the 87th minute to help Young Boys claim a 2-2 draw.
