Harper wins NL Rookie of the Year
Bryce Harper has been named the NL Rookie of the Year, according to the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
He hit .270 with 22 home runs and 59 RBIs in 139 games to go with his .340 OBP and .817 OPS. He led NL rookies in runs (98), total bases (254), triples (9), extra-base hits (57), multi-hit games (45) and outfield assists (8).
Harper received 16 first place ballots and, after turning 20 on October 16, is the youngest position player to ever win the award and the second youngest player ever after Dwight Gooden captured the award in 1984 with the Mets.
