Unfounded rumours

The internet was buzzing throughout Monday afternoon with rumours that Toronto Billionaire David Thomson and True North Sports Entertainment, a Winnipeg Investment group, had reach a deal in principle to bring the Phoenix Coyotes back to Manitoba should the bid to keep the team in Arizona fail.

The report originally surfaced in the Phoenix Business Journal is not accurate. A spokesperson also told The Score's Sid Seixeiro, saying "There is no truth to the claim we have agreed in principle to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes."

Citing two sources close to the Phoenix Coyotes financial situation, the Phoenix Business Journal reported that Winnipeg is being heavily considered by the league as a backup option should a deal to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix fail.

The Coyotes remain in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, although the team is in the midst of a surprisingly successful season. The Coyotes have already qualified for the playoffs and are currently fourth in the Western Conference with 100 points and a record of 47-23-6.
