Report: Bettman to cancel Classic without CBA by Nov.

The NHL will cancel the Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings if a new CBA is not agreed upon by November, according to a Toronto Star report which cites a league source.

“Gary told (the board of governors) he was going to cancel the Winter Classic in November because he didn’t want the players to use the game as leverage,” the report quotes the source.

The report also states that a "source close to the players" says the union has heard the same rumblings. “It’s a scare tactic. It just proves the NHL has no intention of negotiating any time soon.”

No bargainning sessions are currently scheduled between the league and its players.
