Roberto Luongo in Vancouver, but not to talk trade?
Roberto Luongo is back in Vancouver earlier than expected this year. One has to believe that this is due to the lingering trade talks that would see Luongo in a different jersey next season, but according to the Canucks net minder, that is not the case.
According to Luongo, he is back in Vancouver for an annual charity golf tournament, and to simply get an earlier jump on the upcoming season, if there even is one.
When asked of his early return to Canada Luongo said, "Changing it up this year. Trying to see if it will give me a better start."
Luongo has made it clear that he is a number one goaltender, and if the Canucks don't see him as their starter, then he would be more than happy to pick up his bags and find a "better start" elsewhere.
The 33-year-old veteran has a no-trade clause agreement with the Canucks; however, with a young Cory Schneider ready to jump into a starting position, Luongo has said perhaps going back to Florida makes the most sense.
Luongo has reportedly spoken in private with the Panthers organization, but it is still uncertain as to whether he will play north or south of the border next season.
