Torino win battle of promoted Serie A sides
ROME, Sept 1, 2012 (AFP) - Torino grabbed the early bragging rights for Italy's promoted Serie A sides with a dominant 3-0 win over depleted Pescara on Saturday.
The Clarets, who finished runners-up in last season's Serie B to Pescara, came away with a point after a promising away draw at Siena a week ago.
After dominating the opening exchanges their hopes of a first win were boosted when Pescara defender Christian Terlizzi was sent off before the half hour for fouling Rolando Bianchi in the box.
Bianchi's weak effort from the spot was easily parried by an alert Mattia Perin but barely five minutes later the striker headed down a great cross for strike partner Alessandro Sgrigna who beat the 'keeper from close range.
Barely 10 minutes after the restart Torino doubled their lead when Brighi first-timed Sgrigna's cut-back past a stranded Perin as the visitors' defence focused almost entirely on Bianchi at the back post.
Bianchi grabbed a goal of his own when he rose to meet a superb cross from the left to send a bullet header past a rooted Perin.
Pescara's second defeat of the season comes a week after a 3-0 whitewash at home to Inter Milan.
