Seahawks name QB Russell Wilson opening-week starter

The Seattle Seahawks have named rookie Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Pete Carroll announced on Sunday.
Wilson, a 3rd round pick out of Wisconsin, won the job based on his performance in 3 preseason games where he threw for 464 yards with 5 touchdowns and 1 interception.
The former Badger beat out the prohibitive favourite Matt Flynn, who signed a 3-year, $19.5 million contract in the offseason after spending 4 years with the Green Bay Packers.
