West Brom & Spurs clash at White Hart Lane

LONDON (SE) - Andre Villas-Boas will be looking for his first point as Tottenham Hotspur manager when the north London club welcome West Bromwich Albion to White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Tottenham started their league campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, but have lit up the week in the transfer market by looking to clear out a host of players and strengthen in key areas – with a deal for striker Emmanuel Adebayor already completed. However, Villas-Boas moved to cool speculation over the addition of further strikers at the club.

"With Adebayor, (Jermain) Defoe and (Harry) Kane coming through, I think I have enough options," said Villas-Boas. "(Leandro) Damiao is obviously a fantastic player but he is not our prospect at the moment. I spoke to Defoe's agent two days ago and conversations have been extremely productive. Jermain is a player I have immense confidence in. I appreciate his qualities so I am hoping that he will continue to be a Tottenham player."

Eyebrows were raised by the club's willingness to allow Michael Dawson to discuss a permanent move to Queens Park Rangers and for Tom Huddlestone to negotiate a loan move to Stoke, but Villas-Boas was quick to explain both decisions.

"We have allowed the player (Dawson) to speak to QPR, but the player hasn't reached an agreement," said the 34-year-old Portuguese coach. "We already have four centre-backs, but if at the end of the transfer window we ended up with Michael staying, we would be extremely happy. He is a top human being.

"I am not making any dramatic changes," continued Villas-Boas. "We can't wait to have Tom (Huddlestone) back to match fitness level because I think he deserves, for the amount of time he has been out, opportunities and playing time. I'm looking forward to having him back from a six-month loan or one-year loan to Stoke, and having him back in my team."

West Brom started the season with a bang under new manager Steve Clarke, beating Liverpool 3-0. One of the goal-scorers was on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, and the centre-forward was keen to stress that he has no problems with the manager of Saturday's opponents.

"This is West Bromwich Albion playing Tottenham, not me playing against Andre Villas-Boas," said Lukaku. "The only thing I care about is getting three points for West Bromwich and we have to make profit from any negative points that Tottenham have.

"I learned a lot of good things from Chelsea. Now I want to learn more at West Bromwich Albion and to become a better player. The English Premier League is not as easy as people think. Every week you play against the best. There is a big pressure, the fans are screaming at you - that's what makes the English Premier League so special. I learned a lot last season. This season I want to show people that this club and myself are making progress and getting better."

Spurs have Giovani dos Santos and Scott Parker out, while Younes Kaboul is a doubt. West Brom's only concern is a knock to midfielder Jerome Thomas.

Defoe and Adebayor scored two goals apiece in the wins over West Brom last season, with Spurs winning 1-0 at the Lane and 3-1 at The Hawthorns. It was the Lilywhites' first double over the Baggies since the 2002/03 season.
