Canada Basketball names Jay Triano head coach

Canada Basketball, along with general manager Steve Nash, officially introduced Jay Triano as the senior men's head coach on Thursday.

Triano, a former team Canada player and head coach, is currently an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers. Triano became the first Canadian-born head coach in the NBA when he took over the Toronto Raptors from Sam Mitchell in 2008.

Triano takes over as head coach of Canada from Leo Rautins, who replaced Triano in 2005 when he was let go. The team has been without a coach since Rautins stepped down after failing to qualify for the 2012 Olympics earlier this year.

It was under Triano that Canada last made the Olympics at the 2000 Sydney Games.
