Mets cut LHP Olson to open roster spot for Santana
NEW YORK (AP) The Mets have cut left-hander Garrett Olson to make room on the roster for Johan Santana.
Olson was designated for assignment Saturday, leaving rookie Josh Edgin as the only lefty in New York's bullpen. Santana was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list to start against the Atlanta Braves.
Called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Olson was ineffective against Miami in his lone outing for the Mets. He was charged with four runs, three hits and a walk while getting only one out.
Santana was sidelined for three weeks with a sprained right ankle, a DL stint also intended to refresh his surgically repaired left shoulder.
The Mets have 10 days to trade, release or send Olson outright to the minors.
