Group of GMs set to propose head shot regulations
BOCA RATON, Fla. - NHL general managers are one step closer to recommending a rule designed to eliminate hits to the head.
A group of eight GMs met during the second day of the annual meetings to discuss the issue and came up with a potential penalty to curb head shots.
They'll present the idea to the larger group on Wednesday before making an official recommendation to the competition committee.
The head shot issue is receiving the most attention from the GMs during these meetings.
It was brought back into the spotlight over the weekend when Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke caught Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard from the blind side and knocked him out.
League disciplinarian Colin Campbell says he still hasn't decided if Cooke will be suspended.
