Suarez inks Liverpool extension

Liverpool, England (Sports Network) - Liverpool announced Tuesday that striker Luis Suarez has signed a long-term extension with the club. Further details of the deal were not disclosed.

Suarez joined the Reds from Dutch side Ajax in January of 2011. He has gone on to score 21 goals in 52 appearances for the storied English club.

"To sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city," the Uruguayan told the club's official website. "That is important for me and I am very happy with my new contract."

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his delight in being able to keep hold of the 25-year-old.

"I'm delighted," Rodgers told Liverpool's official website. "When you have the opportunity to work with world-class players it's fantastic.

"There were certainly a few clubs who were interested in him but over the offseason he and I communicated well - and he's committed himself for the long term here now."
