Report: Hamels, Phillies closing in on six-year extension
Cole Hamels and the Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly closing in on a six-year contract extension worth more than $137.5 million, according to FOX Sports.
Citing "major league sources," the report states that it would be the second largest deal ever handed out to a starting pitcher.
Hamels had been one of the most talked about players in the Majors leading up to next Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline.
Hamels, 28, is 11-4 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.122 WHIP in 19 starts so far in 2012. The left-hander has accumulated a career record of 85-58 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.139 WHIP in seven Major League seasons, all with the Phillies.
