Report: Rays, Angels discussing Shields trade
According to Tim Kurkjian of ESPN, the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels are discussing a trade involving Rays' starting pitcher James Shields.
The proposed trade would send the 30-year old Shields to Los Angeles for outfielder Peter Bourjos and catcher Hank Conger.
The Angels have been seeking starting pitching help for the stretch run. Going in to Tuesday night's games, Los Angeles sat five games back in the American League West, and were tied atop the Wild Card standings.
Shields is 8-6 with a 4.39 earned run average and 1.44 WHIP this season. Shields posted career-highs in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, WHIP, batting average against, and complete games (11) in 2011.
