Oilers sign Gagner to one-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers have signed centre Sam Gagner to a one-year deal, the team announced.

The 22-year-old Ontario native, who was a restricted free agent, is expected to earn $3.2 million on the one year deal, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

This contract is a considerable increase for Gagner, who had been playing on a two-year, $4.55 million contract ($2.275 million cap hit).

Gagner made headlines last season when he tied a club record, set by Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey, for points in a game with eight (four goals, four assists).

In 75 games last season, the former sixth overall draft pick recorded 18 goals and 29 assists.
