The Washington Nationals plan to shut down All-Star pitcher Stephen Strasburg at some point, due to his Tommy John surgery last year. The Cleveland Cavaliers are eager to complete the three-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Lakers, but they will not sign off on the deal until they are assured that Lakers centre Andrew Bynum will sign long term in Cleveland. [Yahoo! Sports]

The agent for Orlando Magic centre Dwight Howard is refuting the report that his client would sign a long-term extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, if he is traded there. Howard's agent claims that his client will test free agency, regardless of who he is traded to, including Brooklyn. [ESPN]

NBA jerseys will likely feature small sponsorship patches on them, beginning as early as two seasons from now. The league estimates that this will generate nearly $100 million in revenue per season. [CBS Sports]

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre says that he returned for a 20th and final season in 2010, because the "money was too good." Favre was on a two-year, $25 million deal. [USA Today]
