Agent: Howard will explore free agency, no matter what
Dwight Howard's agent has stated that the All Star centre will not sign an extension with any team the Magic trade him to, instead opting to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, according to ESPN.
Initial reports claimed that Howard would only sign an extension if traded to the Brooklyn Nets, but a trade to Brooklyn will have to wait now that the Nets have signed centre Brook Lopez to a lucrative extension. Lopez was expected to be the main piece leaving the Nets in any acquisition of Howard.
On Wednesday night, it was reported that Howard would also sign an extension if traded to the Lakers, but agent Dan Fegan's latest comments to ESPN appear to have put an end to any of those rumours.
"Dwight's position has remained unchanged since the end of this past season. He fully intends to explore free agency at the end of next season, regardless of what team trades for him, including Brooklyn," Fegan was quoted as saying.
With that, it appears as though any team that trades for Howard will have to do so without a long term commitment from the big man.
In addition to the Nets and Lakers, the Rockets have also been mentioned as a potential trade suitor for Howard.
