Report: Yankees' Gardner needs surgery, will miss season
Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his elbow and will likely miss the remainder of the season, according to David Waldstein of the New York Times.
Gardner, who injured the elbow while making a sliding catch in a game against the Twins back on April 17th, was attempting a second comeback from the injury before being shutdown due to soreness following a simulated game.
The Yankees have used seven left fielders this season that have combined to hit .234/.305/.435 with 15 home runs. Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones, who will continue to see playing time in left, have hit 13 of those.
