Report: Ortiz day-to-day with Achilles injury
UPDATE: According to WEEI radio, an MRI revealed that Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz did not rupture or tear his Achilles tendon and is listed as day-to-day.
Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz tweaked his Achilles rounding the bases on Adrian Gonzalez's game-winning home run in Monday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.
Ortiz hustled around second base, unsure if the ball would clear the fence, and came up limping after touching the bag. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
"He wasn't sure if it was going to get out, so he was going to score," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said. "It went out, he went to slow down, and pop. It�s that Achilles ... David's a little upset and a little sore, but it doesn't look like he pulled anything or tore anything. It's probably going to be some days, though."
Ortiz also expressed optimism that the injury is not serious.
"I think I'll be all right," said Ortiz after the game. "I didn't hear a pop so that's good."
Before getting hurt, Ortiz went 1-for-3 and picked up a hit and a walk for a team-record 10th straight game. It also extended his hitting streak 11 games. On the season, Ortiz is hitting .316 with 23 home runs and 58 RBI.
