Report: A's could target Yunel Escobar

The Oakland Athletics could target Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar in a trade, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The report suggests A’s general manager Billy Beane would like to upgrade at the position due to the inefficiencies of Cliff Pennington, who ranks 2nd to last among all major league shortstops with a .556 OPS. Meanwhile, with 6 home runs and 34 RBI, Escobar is projected to post lower numbers than in 2011.

The 6-year veteran is owed $5 million in 2013 and the Blue Jays could exercise their $5 million club options for the 2014 & 2015 seasons respectively.
