Report: Nets close to max extension with Brook Lopez

The Brooklyn Nets and centre Brook Lopez are reportedly nearing an agreement on a maximum contract, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The Nets have been reportedly working on trades that would land Orlando Magic centre Dwight Howard, but deals for Howard have appeared to stall.

Agreeing with Lopez could be a sign that the Nets are moving on from their attempted multi-team trade and are instead pursuing Lopez as their future starting centre. The Lopez signing could also be a part of a larger sign-and-trade with the Magic, as Lopez was believed to be one of the key pieces leaving if the Nets were to land Howard.

Lopez suffered an ankle injury last season that allowed him to play in only five games all season. In the 2010-11 season, Lopez averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
