Report: Lakers join Steve Nash sweepstakes

UPDATE

The LA Lakers have entered the Steve Nash sweepstakes according to a tweet from David Aldridge of TNT. Ramon Sessions, who started at PG for the Lakers last season, is currently an unrestricted free agent. The most experienced point guard on the Lakers roster is Steve Blake.

According to the report, the Raptors, Mavericks & Knicks are still vying for Nash's services.

The Phoenix Suns have offered free agent point guard Steve Nash a two-year, $12 million deal, according to Paul Calvisi of KTAR Radio.

This comes as surprising news, as the Toronto Raptors reportedly offered Nash a three-year, $36 million deal just a few days ago. Few people expected Nash to stay with the Suns beyond the 2011-12 season, but offering him half of what his potential suitors are offering will likely ensure the veteran's departure from the desert.

Nash earned just under $12 million last season, while playing his last year under contract with the Suns. Despite the 38-year-old's age, his production did not suffer. Nash averaged 12.5 points, 10.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in 62 games.

Other teams reportedly pursuing Nash include the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks.
