NBA Draft Profile: Arnett Moultrie
Arnett Moultrie - PF – 6'10, 233lbs.
Mississippi State
Despite what many people would assume, Anthony Davis was not the leading rebounder in the SEC. That crown belonged to Arnett Moultrie, who pulled down 10.6 per game. What really makes that impressive, is rebounding was not the strongest facet of Moultrie's game. He was an exceptional scorer, who despite being the primary focus of defences, dropped 16 points per game on 55 per cent shooting. He did this in a variety of ways. Most of his damage was done in face-up situations, but he possesses an effective hook-shot and his jumper even has range out to the three-point line (44%).
Moultrie's rebounding numbers are a good indication of his high motor and work rate.
Moultrie's stock has been hurt by the fact that he did not do any pre-draft workouts. He made this decision because he was scheduled to work out with centres and Moultrie projects more in the mold of a power forward. This could mean a team in the mid-to-late first round will get a big time steal. The other concerns about Moultrie centre on his skinny frame and the fact that he doesn't block enough shots. He may never be an elite shot-blocker, but if paired with a defensive centre, Moultrie should be a dynamic piece of a front-court for years to come.
