Red Wings sign Helm to 4-year deal

The Detroit Red Wings signed centre Darren Helm to a four-year, $8.5 million contract, the team announced.
The 25-year-old, who earned $1 million last season, was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1. Helm was initially drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth round of the 2005 draft.
In five seasons with the Red Wings Helm has recorded 32 goals and 51 assists in 248 games played.
