Olympic three-peat: Canada wins women's hockey gold
Canada's women's hockey team shut out the United States, 2-0, in the gold medal game of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, earning Canada its eighth gold medal of the games.
Marie-Philip Poulin, the youngest member of Team Canada at 18-years-old, opened the scoring at 13:55 of the first period, sending Canada Hockey Place into a frenzy. Poulin kept the crowd alive when she added another goal just 2:55 later, giving Canada the 2-0 advantage they would hold on to for the next 40-plus minutes.
Shannon Szabados was the story in goal, making 28 saves for the shutout to cap her first ever Olympics. Meghan Agosta of Canada took home tournament MVP honours.
The win gives Canada three straight gold medals in women's ice hockey at the Olympics, a streak that began with another victory over the U.S. in 2002.
Earlier in the day, Finland defeated the defending silver medalists from Sweden to take home the bronze medal.
