Farrell: Lind demotion for poor conditioning

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell suggested on Monday that first baseman Adam Lind's demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas was due in part to his lack of conditioning and poor physical shape, according to multiple sources.

Lind was not doing himself any favours this season batting .186 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI through 34 games, but Farrell cited a meeting he had with the 28-year-old, before his demotion, where conditioning was the main factor addressed. "That took away from his range, and we felt like it reduced his bat speed," Farrell said.

Now, in an effort to get back to the major leagues, Lind has improved his production at the plate in Triple-A. Lind set a record on Monday night, becoming the first player in Las Vegas history to drive in six runs in a single game.

"It wasn't going to be a batting average that got him back here," Farrell said. "I know he's committed to a daily workout regimen to address some of the other physical issues that we outlined."

In 22 games with Las Vegas, Lind is batting .416 with 5 home runs and 23 RBI.
