Habs relieve Cunneyworth of coaching duties

It what was seen as a mere formality, the Montreal Canadiens have relieved assistant head coach Randy Cunneyworth of his duties, general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Wednesday.

Cunneyworth served as the team's interim bench boss for the final 50 games of the 2011-12 season following the dismissal of Jacques Martin; he compiled a record of 18-23-9 during that span.

On Tuesday, the Canadiens hired Michel Therrien as their permanent head coach, marking his second tour of duty with the club.
