Phillies' Contreras done for season

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Hours after the Phillies placed pitcher Jose Contreras on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right elbow strain, they received worse news.

According to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, Contreras suffered tears in both the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor pronator tendon in the elbow -- meaning the veteran will likely require Tommy John Surgery that will end his 2012 campaign.

Contreras left Friday's 6-4 victory over Miami in the seventh inning when he felt discomfort in his right elbow after throwing just four pitches.

The 40-year-old right-hander, who began the season on the DL following right elbow surgery last September, was 1-0 with a 5.27 earned run average in 17 relief appearances this year.
