Gaborik to have shoulder surgery, could miss 6 months

New York Rangers forward Marian Gaborik will have surgery to repair a torn labrum, the team announced Firday. He could miss up to six months, according to Steve Zipay of Newsday. The surgery is scheduled for next week and Gaborik could miss the start of next season.

It is unclear when the native of Slovakia native hurt his shoulder, but it was widely speculated that he played through the injury during the playoffs. The right winger recorded five goals and six assists in 20 games. However, he recorded just one point in the six-game series versus the Devils.

In three seasons with the Rangers, the 2012 NHL All-Star Game MVP has put up 105 goals and 105 assists for 210 points in 220 games.
