Report: Mattias Ohlund could be forced to retire

Swedish newspaper Expressen is reporting that defenceman Mattias Ohlund could be forced to retire.

The 13-year veteran missed all 82 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on both knees in October. His left knee, however, remained problematic and Ohlund was scheduled to undergo an additional major surgery.

In a translated version of the Swedish newspaper's article, The 6-foot-4, 229-pounder said that he was uncertain if he could come back and play hockey again after undergoing the procedure, which requires half a year of rehabilitation.

In 11 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and two with the Lightning, Ohlund registered 93 goals and 250 assists. The Swedish native remains under contract with Tampa Bay through the 2015-16 season.
