Tim Wakefield announces retirement

Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield announced his retirement on Friday.

The 45-year-old was the longest tenured player on the Red Sox roster, having spent 17 seasons with the team. He is among the franchise leaders in many pitching categories, ranking first in starts (430), second in strikeouts (2,046), and third in wins (186).
