Report: Blue Jackets shopping Jeff Carter
The Columbus Blue Jackets are actively trying to trade centre Jeff Carter, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Carter was acquired by the Blue Jackets in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in June of 2011. Right from the beginning he seemed unhappy with the trade, as he had just signed an 11-year contract extension with the Flyers less than one year prior to being traded.
Carter, who was drafted 11th overall by the Flyers in 2003, has seen a significant decrease in production since landing in Columbus. The 27-year-old has just 17 points (10 goals, 7 assists) in 30 games this season, despite scoring over 30 goals in his last three seasons with the Flyers.
The Ontario native has also seen a series of injuries that have held him out of 21 of 51 games this season. There is no word on which teams are interested in the former All-Star, but with a cap hit of $5.23 million it will not be easy for teams to fit him under their cap.
