Report: Yashin in talks with Islanders
Alexei Yashin is in talks with the New York Islanders about a possible return to the NHL, according to a tweet by Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy.
News broke on Monday that Yashin had been presented with a contract by an NHL club, however his agent Mark Gandler said that he didn't want to name the team. Today, Gandler revealed to SovSport that the team who contact Yashin was the New York Islanders, and that his agent is "seriously considering" their offer.
In June 2007 the Islanders bought out the final four years of a 10-year / $87.5 million deal signed by Yashin in 2001, after he was acquired from the Ottawa Senators. That contract is currently acting as a $2.2 million hit against the Islanders' cap, and will end after the 2014-15 season.
In 346 career games on Long Island the Russian scored 119 goals and added 171 assists.
