Tokarski, whose contract expires at the end of this season, is working hard to earn a new deal and has generally impressed the Lightning's goalie coach, reports Tampa Bay Times. "I'm happy with his first one-third of the season," said goaltending coach Frantz Jean.
The netminder sits at 9-4-2 in 16 games with a 2.49 GAA and .900 save percentage. Those stats clearly need some polishing, but Jean says Tokarski is controlling his rebounds a whole lot better. And that's critical for the smallish netminder. It's still not a guarantee he'll earn that new deal, but it's a step in the right direction.
