Ron Wilson: Grabovski was a joy to coach
UPDATE: Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Ron Wilson has commented on Mikhail Grabovski, giving Adam Oates a preview of what he can expect from the forward in Washington this season.
Ron Wilson on Grabovski: "Grabo was a joy to coach. Works very hard, cares about winning and improving as an individual...."— Stephen Whyno (@SWhyno) August 23, 2013
High praise, and a stark contrast from what the current regime in Toronto might have to say about their former center.
The agent for Mikhail Grabovski said it was the opportunity to play for head coach Adam Oates that ultimately convinced the Belorussian centerman to sign with the Washington Capitals.
In an interview with the National Post, Gary Greenstin said the former Maple Leaf had multiple offers, but was intrigued by the "enthusiasm" of Oates.
“Several teams were interested in Mikhail. We had so many calls," he told the newspaper. "We were impressed with Washington coach Adam Oates. He talked with Mikhail, he talked with me. And his enthusiasm to work with Mikhail convinced us.”
Greenstin added that Grabovski will be able to greatly exceed his production from last season if he is put in the proper situation.
“He’ll be getting definitely more ice time. He’s got the ability for 60 or 70 points...It was the right choice for Mikhail."
