Avalanche sign Landeskog to seven-year extension
The Avalanche have signed forward Gabriel Landeskog to a seven-year contract extension that will keep him in Colorado through the 2020-21 season, the team announced on Thursday.
The contract is worth $39 million over the life of the deal, an average cap-hit just over $5.5 million per season.
The breakdown of Landeskog's #avs extension is $4.5M, $4.5M, $5.5M, $6M, $6M, $6M and $6.5M.— Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) August 15, 2013
Landeskog, the youngest captain in league history, has driven play at a super-elite level for a young winger in his first two seasons in the NHL. An ace penalty-killer and a shutdown defender (from the wing no less) Landeskog is a valuable piece to lock-up long-term.
Landeskog was entering the final year of his entry-level contract, so the Avalanche have in effect purchased three UFA years from their young captain with this contract. The price tag is steep, but Landeskog seems like a solid bet to provide significant value over the life of this contract.
