Report: Zito clears waivers
San Francisco Giants' starting pitcher Barry Zito is now reportedly eligible to be traded to any team.
doesn't seem like a trade candidate at this moment, but Barry Zito has cleared waivers. 7 weeks left on $126M, 7-yr deal.— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) August 14, 2013
Zito signed his seven-year deal in December 2006. He is earning $20 million in the final year.
Players must clear waivers in order to be traded past the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
The 35-year old left-hander was pulled from the Giants' rotation earlier this season. He has a 5.40 ERA, a 1.71 WHIP, 75 strikeouts and 47 walks in 113 1/3 innings pitched.
